ROLE OVERVIEW
As BK Beauty’s Art Director (DTC, Creative Lead), you will shape and refine our brand identity across every customer touchpoint—from packaging and photography to social media assets and email design. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams (Digital, Retention, Social, Product) to ensure a consistent brand feel, while also building out design systems and creative processes for long-term success. The ideal candidate brings a keen eye for detail, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is excited to grow into a true creative leader.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Brand Audit & Evolution
- Conduct a comprehensive review of BK Beauty’s current visuals and messaging.
- Identify opportunities to elevate our brand and propose a roadmap for future creative direction.
- Create and maintain a robust brand style guide that unifies internal teams and external partners.
- Inspire and mentor internal design and creative contributing team members; collaborate with agencies and contractors as needed.
- Conceptualize, design, and oversee production of key creative assets (email, social, web, marketplace, packaging, direct mail, etc.).
- Partner with the Growth and Social teams to deliver high-performing paid and organic content.
Photography Ownership
- Direct photoshoots with external photographers—managing product shots, lifestyle/flatlays, and studio/model sessions.
- Establish a consistent photographic aesthetic aligned with brand guidelines.
Design Systems & Processes
- Implement project management workflows and design systems to streamline asset creation, feedback, approvals, and delivery.
- Set up collaborative tools (e.g., Figma, shared asset libraries), along with well organized and managed assets to ensure efficient cross-team collaboration.
- Continuously refine design and review processes to increase speed, quality, and consistency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the Retention (Email) team, Growth (Paid Social), Social (Organic Content), and Product (Packaging) to ensure all creative needs are met on schedule and on brand.
- Provide final quality checks on any customer-facing assets before launch.
- Maintain a “never good enough” mentality—proactively seek inspiration from top-tier brands and creative campaigns.
- Know what “good” looks like and demonstrate an ability to execute and deliver at that level through continuous improvement.
- Analyze performance data and feedback to evolve creative direction, always pushing for higher impact and innovation.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Early-Career Creative Leader: You’ve spent years honing your design craft—both academically and personally—and are eager to step into a role where you can stretch your leadership muscles.
- Technical Mastery: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator), Figma, and video editing tools (e.g., Final Cut) is a must—emphasis on digital.
- Brand-Building Mindset: You understand the power of consistent, compelling design in shaping brand perception, especially in a DTC and consumer product environment.
- Photography & Production Savvy: Familiarity with directing photoshoots, understanding lighting, composition, and post-production workflows.
- Collaborative & Autonomous: Able to run projects independently, but also thrive on input from cross-functional teams. Comfortable asking clarifying questions and managing feedback loops.
- Creative Drive: Passionate about design trends and best practices; constantly researching, experimenting, and innovating to produce inspiring work.
- Agile & Flexible: Excited to join a fast-moving, growing brand. Willing to pivot quickly based on new opportunities or data.
- Strong Communication Skills: Adept at presenting creative concepts, taking feedback constructively, and articulating design rationale to both creative and non-creative stakeholders.
WHY BK BEAUTY?
- Impactful Role: You’ll shape the look and feel of a brand that directly engages millions of beauty customers.
- Growth Opportunity: Collaborate with a small but mighty team, gaining visibility into multiple areas of the business.
- Autonomy & Ownership: Lead key projects, build new systems, and truly own our visual identity.
- Flexible Environment: Primarily on-site for hands-on collaboration, with opportunities for remote work as needed for focused design sprints.
