This role impacts the effectiveness of Public Safety through radio communications, telephone communications, automated data systems, and monitoring security alarm systems and closed-circuit television systems within the police communications center. It also impacts law enforcement and security efforts of the University of Pittsburgh Police Department.Job Summary
The police communication supervisor provides supervision, guidance, and training to police dispatchers. This role ensures effective Public Safety through various communication systems and monitoring efforts.Essential Functions
Manages the Communications Unit and directly supervises communication specialists.Ensures high levels of satisfaction and retention by implementing quality control measures.Observes and documents the work of each communication specialist, providing corrections and training as needed.Develops and enforces policies and procedures for the Oakland Campus and Regionals.Conducts annual performance evaluations and develops training programs to enhance personnel knowledge and decision-making.Trains personnel on the ENS system and manages ENS messages, social media posts, and website updates.Acts as a media liaison until additional communication support is available.Fills in as needed and operates as a dispatcher, facilitating communications among emergency teams.Monitors media, including social media platforms and news sources, to provide relevant information for message development.Schedules and approves time off and monitors scheduling.Investigates complaints concerning dispatchers and recommends disciplinary actions as needed.Participates in crisis management and tabletop exercises to improve crisis preparedness.Physical Effort
