Job Summary
The purpose of this classification is to provide courier services for an assigned division and to provide general support to the division. Essential Functions
Transports, delivers and picks up various items such as equipment, furniture, supplies, boxes, library books, documentation, library donations, fines and fees or other materials to/from various offices, vendors/suppliers, financial institutions, or other locations; packs materials in boxes for delivery; loads items onto delivery vehicles; unloads/delivers items at destinations; provides/obtains delivery acknowledgment signatures as needed; receives/loads items from destination for delivery at other locations; sorts/separates received items for distribution to proper area/person; places items in storage as appropriate. Collects, sorts, transports, and delivers inter-office and U.S. mail; separates incoming mail and distributes to mailroom, offices, or other designated locations; transports outgoing U.S. mail to post office; receives mail/packages from various mail/delivery services. Coordinates pickup, transport, and delivery of recyclable materials from offices to recycling facilities. Drives utility vehicle, van, or other vehicle to transport materials; plans routes/schedules to ensure timely pickup/delivery of materials; follows established traffic laws and safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees, the public, and other individuals; performs driving functions safely and efficiently in various weather conditions; monitors traffic conditions surrounding vehicle to identify pedestrians, obstructions, or unsafe traffic conditions. Responds to requests for special service as needed, such as waiting for a delayed item, prioritizing a delivery, hand-delivering an item to a specific person or division, or making a special trip. Assists in planning and coordinating special projects and activities; sets up tables, chairs, and equipment for meetings and events; sets up facilities for library book sales; sets up computer equipment for community programs. Lifts and moves furniture, equipment and heavy materials; assists with the clean up following hurricanes, storms or other emergency situations. Empties recycling containers and ash urns; carries/transports trash to dumpster or other designated trash receptacle. Picks up and disposes of debris/litter from grounds and parking lots; removes dead animals from grounds; may haul garbage, tree limbs and vegetation to landfill or other designated location. Performs general/manual tasks in support of assigned area; assists in constructing or repairing furniture, shelving, or equipment; performs minor repairs as needed; pressure washes exterior walls of facilities; paints interior and exterior surfaces and equipment. Monitors inventory levels of equipment and supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new/replacement materials. Operates a utility truck, trailer, van, pallet jack, hand truck, blower, air conditioner, air compressor, generator, pressure washer, drill, saw, chain saw, circular saw, power jack, vacuum cleaner, shovel, rake, level, ladder, measuring devices, carpentry tools, painting tools, mechanic tools, power tools, hand tools, cell phone, personal computer, copy machine, fax machine, telephone, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of database, word processing, spreadsheet, library circulation system, e mail, or other computer programs. Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting vehicles/equipment, refueling vehicles, checking fluid levels and replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning vehicles/equipment, or cleaning work areas or shop; monitors operations to maintain efficiency and safety and reports faulty equipment. Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals. Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, daily activity logs, mailing forms, delivery tickets, or other documents. Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, delivery tickets, maps, policies, procedures, manuals, catalogs, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate. Communicates with supervisor, employees, other divisions, vendors/suppliers, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed. Performs other related duties as required. In the event of a declared state of emergency, employees in this classification may be called to work during days or hours other than those for which they are regularly scheduled. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required. Two (2) months of related experience preferred. Fingerprinting required. LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
Supplemental information
Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications. Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County's Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
