We are seeking a Technical Writer/Illustrator to support government customers in a fast-paced environment as part of a multifunctional design and engineering team. The ideal candidate will have strong time management skills, the ability to multitask, and a proactive approach to balancing program priorities and project deadlines. This position requires exceptional written communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with customers and teammates.
Responsibilities
- Develop technical documentation such as technical operator and maintenance manuals, work packages, Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM), Modification Work Orders (MWO), Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) manuals, repair parts lists, and training manuals.
- Create and modify 2D line drawings for technical publications, converting photographs and engineering computer-aided design (CAD) drawings and schematics into high-quality illustrations.
- Ensure compliance with military standards such as MIL-STD-40051-1/2, MIL-STD-38784, MIL-PRF-63029, MIL-PRF-63002, and MIL-HDBK-1222.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, subject matter experts, provisioners, and logistics personnel on DoD weapon systems.
- Participate in technical and provisioning working groups.
- Represent the team at routine internal and customer meetings.
- Support customer on-site validation and verification events.
Required
- BS or BA in related field.
- 5 years technical writing experience with a focus on DoD and military applications.
- Proficiency using illustration software such as Canvas X Pro, Adobe Illustrator, or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of structured Extensible Markup Language (XML) authoring tools such as PTC Arbortext or equivalent.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Availability for up to 25% travel.
- Must have the ability to obtain or maintain a DoD security clearance.
Desired
- Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks, PTC Creo, or equivalent.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Understanding of DoD provisioning and logistics processes and documentation.
