Position Summary
Winlock School District is seeking a one-year CTE Teacher at the high school level, with one middle school publications class. This teacher will inspire students through hands-on instruction in Arts, Photography, Graphic Design, Business, and Publications, while also serving as an advisor for SkillsUSA, supporting student leadership, career readiness, and competition preparation.
This position is ideal for a teacher passionate about helping students connect creative expression with real-world business and technical applications in a dynamic, project-based learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
•Plan and deliver engaging instruction in:
•Visual Arts (Foundations of Art, 2D/3D Design)
•Photography (Digital and traditional, image editing, composition)
•Graphic Design (Adobe Creative Suite, design principles)
•Business (Entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, communications)
•Publications (Yearbook, digital journalism)
•Develop and implement engaging curriculum aligned with CTE Frameworks.
•Integrate 21st-century skills, employability standards, and industry-aligned content aligned with OSPI CTE frameworks.
•Collaborate with local industry partners and advisory committee to ensure curriculum relevancy and expand real-world connections.
•Provide instruction that supports a wide range of student abilities, including differentiated learning opportunities using multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).
•Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful learning environment in both classroom and competition settings.
•Teach advisory, fostering connections, mentorship, and social-emotional learning.
•Monitor and assess student progress using formative and summative assessments; maintain accurate records.
•Collaborate with staff in a team-based approach to support student growth and positive behavior.
•Participate in school-wide activities, staff meetings, and professional development.
•Communicate regularly with families and guardians regarding student progress and well-being.
•Serve as the SkillsUSA chapter advisor for the school.
•Recruit and mentor students to participate in SkillsUSA competitions at the local, regional, and state levels.
•Coordinate meetings, fundraising, and competition preparation in collaboration with CTE teachers.
•Support the completion of CTE documentation (e.g., frameworks, data reporting, student certifications).
•Attend ongoing professional development, including CTE industry certifications and training.
Working Conditions
•Full-time position, following the school calendar.
•Work in a classroom and small-group intervention setting.
•Occasional evening events for family engagement
•Occasional travel for training and SkillsUSA events.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree in education, business, arts, technology, or related field.
•Ability to meet CTE certification requirements through industry experience, relevant coursework, or a plan of study.
•Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
•Knowledge of digital photography, layout design, video editing, and digital publishing tools.
•Valid Washington State teaching Certification with CTE endorsement (K-12 or relevant).
•Criminal justice fingerprint clearance
•Strong communication skills, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
•Ability to build rapport with middle school students and foster a sense of community
•Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
•Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment
•Engage in ongoing professional development, PLC's, and continuous learning
•Maintain confidentiality.
•Carry out the assignments of the building principal.
•Skills in classroom management
•Must be flexible and able to handle change in a professional, positive manner.
Preferred:
•SkillsUSA experience (as an advisor, judge, or former participant).
•Experience in secondary education teaching or mentoring students in creative or business disciplines.
•Background in journalism, public relations, or school publications.
•Experience working with students on industry-recognized certifications or student-run businesses.
