TITLE: Music Teacher
2024-2025 School Year
POSITION SUMMARY:
To provide direct pedagogical instruction in music to deliver Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, and the achievement of academic proficiency for all students. The role involves teaching music education to students and assisting in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction, helping students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
A valid Massachusetts Teaching license in Music (PreK-12) is required. Additional content area license is encouraged. Please note that licensure requirements are subject to change at the discretion of DESE.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
At least a Bachelor’s Degree in the area of major study. Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is preferred.

- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the educational field.
- Communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community.
- Work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage several projects simultaneously.
- Plan and implement lessons based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed:
- Possesses knowledge of music pedagogy.
- Engages students in music-making and teaches musical skills in a variety of genres including but not limited to instrumental and vocal performance.
- Plans and implements culturally responsive music lessons.
- Establishes and nurtures a positive and equitable classroom culture.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis.
- Consults with colleagues, students, and parents on a regular basis.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff and school committees.
- Participates in staff development programs.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director and/or Coordinator of Fine and Performing Arts.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified as Exempt (Professional).
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Covered under the Framingham Teachers Association (Unit A) Contract.
