Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Guilford County's Graphic Designer creates artistic designs and other visual marketing communications materials that deliver information to intended audiences through imagery in support of Guilford County programs, initiatives and projects.

This role emphasizes the county's focus on Successful People, Strong Community, and Quality Government, supporting the Guilford County brand and messaging to enhance internal and external engagement across departments, boards, and commissions.
Examples of Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Creates visual elements, digital and print using advanced design principles in typography, color theory, scale and composition.
- Collaborates with Communications / Public Relations staff to develop ideas and concept designs that are both artistically interesting and engaging while effectively communicating information and ideas to the target audience.
- Maintains and updates project tracking on Monday.com, coordinating access with collaborators and ensuring alignment across teams.
- Identify and execute all steps necessary to move projects from concept to completion.
- Performs related duties as required.
RECRUITMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficient knowledge with current design software, such as but not limited to: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, Canva, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Advanced knowledge of digital photo editing and optimization for print, digital and web delivery.
- Familiar with the creative process, open to sharing ideas, critique and direction, and a willingness to make changes to designs.
- Exceptional creativity and innovative design skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Organizational and time-management skills for meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues and clients.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting desired deadlines determined by internal clients.
- Ability to concept designs that are both artistically interesting and engaging while effectively communicating information and ideas to the target audience.
Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media, Fine Arts, Communications, or a related field, and five (5) or more years of experience in graphic design, preferably in a public administration setting; or, any equivalent combination of education and related experience sufficient to demonstrate the ability to effectively perform the essential functions of the role.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five or more years of experience with design software, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Canva and Paint
- Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
- At least 5 years of experience in a government agency
Supplemental Information
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Normal office environment primarily involving sitting, standing, bending, walking and operating personal computers and copying machines. There is little or no exposure to hazardous environmental conditions.
Driving is Essential
Driving is an essential requirement of this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid driver's license and that the driving record is compatible with the county's driving criteria.
If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford County's vehicle use policy.
