What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are looking for an experienced, innovative, and security minded R&D Computer Scientist that is ready to challenge the status quo and drive improvements in process and quality methodologies in software engineering. This position will directly contribute to the success of Sandia’s most critical mission areas. This is an opportunity to work directly with leadership, implement new technologies, and partner across the laboratory and Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) to ensure mission success.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Display strong technical proficiencies in software engineering practices, including planning, designing, implementing, testing, deploying, and maintaining robust, highly available systems and applications.
Provide full-stack development, with an emphasis on user interface/user experience to enable national security missions.
Contribute to research and development in areas such as service and micro-services architectures, virtualization, enterprise cyber security, and business and artificial intelligence.
Be responsible for planning, designing, implementing, testing, deploying, and maintaining robust systems and applications targeted for classified networks and utilized across the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE).
Work collaboratively with developers, technical leads, and customers to develop and design high quality software applications
Apply your knowledge in object-oriented software design and development to help drive toward a modernized infrastructure.
The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.
Salary Range:
$114,000 - $227,500
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field plus 5 years of software design/development experience; or equivalent (MS + 1 year, AS + 9 years, or no degree + 13).
Experience with object oriented programming (i.e. Java, C++, etc.)
Experience with build automation tools (i.e. Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, etc.)
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
Qualifications We Desire:
Experience as a UI/UX Designer or similar role.
Experience with Spring Boot and Angular
Experience developing software & data intensive systems for classified networks.
Experience working in cross NSE (Nuclear Security Enterprise) teams to make progress on strategic or technical initiatives.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment; excellent listening and communication skills.
Critical thinking, synthesis and problem-solving; ability to deal with ambiguity and adapt to a fast-paced, customer.
Experience working with OpenShift and on Agile teams.
Experience applying DevOps Principles.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Position Information:
This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.
Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
