The role
BCA Research is the essential source of macro insight for the world's top professionals. In this role you will assist in authoring high-quality, in-depth macro strategy reports on thematic / big picture topics with medium to high independence. These reports will be published as part of BCA’s Special Report Unit (SRU).
Working with other members of the SRU team, here’s what a typical day could look like:
- Conducting research and authoring reports on macroeconomic and financial market topics deemed of high importance to the firm and its clients.
- Generating independent investment implications of your research and writing complete and cohesive drafts.
- Building advanced proprietary models and indicators.
- Presenting to clients the results of your research via conference calls or face to face meetings.
- Actively participating in discussions on financial markets and macroeconomic developments as well as taking and defending your own views.
- Educating and mentoring junior staff.
- Proofreading the reports of other researchers.
Requirements
- Minimum of a master’s degree in economics or finance.
- Minimum of 4-5 years of experience as a top-down financial market researcher or similar position at a leading investment bank, investment management firm, research firm, or as a top-quality financial journalist. CFA Designation an asset, especially if academic background is focused on economics.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience authoring high quality top-down research reports with considerable independence, providing high quality investment recommendations and/or macroeconomic analysis.
- Extremely strong attention to detail and fluency with global economic and financial market data and their sources.
- Strong familiarity with financial market data vendor applications (e.g.: Bloomberg) and software programs enabling statistical / visual time series analysis. Experience with Macrobond an asset.
- Tenacity and curiosity as personal attributes.
- Successful candidates will be required to demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of the global economy, and to articulate how macroeconomic analysis is linked to profitable investment strategies with a time horizon of less than two years.
