The Marketing Communications Paid Intern will have the unique opportunity to lead a significant storytelling initiative: revitalizing the Gardens' blog. This will include both interviewing staff and writing blog posts, as well as reorganizing and mapping blog categories to improve user experience. Additionally, the intern will support the marketing department in a variety of tasks, gaining valuable experience in content creation, brand building, and audience engagement across multiple channels.

Primary Functions:
The Marketing Paid Internship offers hands-on experience in a marketing/audience engagement office including:
Blog Revitalization:
Working closely with the Marketing & Communications Manager and Content & Creative Specialist, the intern will:
- Research, interview staff/interns/volunteers, and write engaging blog posts highlighting the Gardens' mission, programs, and initiatives.
- Reorganize blog categories for improved user navigation and optimize older posts for relevance and audience needs.
- Capture and produce photography and video as needed to complement written content.
Marketing Administrative and Strategic Support:
- Assist in content brainstorming, drafting, and publishing for social media, and responding to audience interactions.
- Assist in the creation and publishing of approved website updates, emails, event promotions, and other digital assets.
- Support monitoring and collection of Gardens-related media coverage and audience feedback for reporting.
- Support maintenance of marketing assets, including images and video.
- Assist in daily administrative tasks for the Marketing team to increase office efficiency
- Work with Marketing team to ensure projects maintain and share the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens brand and voice
Work schedule:
This role will be 40 hours/week, Monday through Friday, with potential limited evening or weekend hours for special events. The successful candidate is responsible for their transportation to and from the workplace.
Physical and environmental factors:
Approximate percentages of time tasks are performed in carrying out the essential functions of this position:
70% of the time bending/stooping, squatting, reaching above shoulder level, kneeling, hand/fingers used for repetitive motion, hands/fingers used for fine manipulation, hands/fingers used for firm grasping, head/neck in rotational movements, head/neck in extension movements, head/neck in flexing movements.
30% of the time in a sitting position.
The maximum load the employee will be required to lift/carry is 35 or 50 lbs. per Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens Employee Manual.
Requirements
- Actively working toward a degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field. 2+ years of relevant schooling desired.
- Strong writing and storytelling skills, with an ability to craft engaging and informative content.
- Ability to edit written content for clarity, consistency, and alignment with an established brand voice.
- Interest or experience in blog management, content strategy, or digital publishing.
- Familiarity with social media platforms, digital marketing tools, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong photography skills. Experience with videography, video editing, and Adobe-based editing programs (Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere) is a plus.
- Interest in plants, gardens, and the natural world a plus.
- Commitment to working across the organization to support the integration of IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access) principles into Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens' internal operations and its relationships with visitors and guests.
