Job Description
WVTM-TV, the Hearst Television NBC affiliate located in the Birmingham, AL market, has an exciting opportunity to join our News Team as an Anchor/Reporter. The Anchor/Reporter is someone who can bring the energy of live reporting to our anchor desk. In addition to credibility, poise, and personality, we’re looking for an anchor who isn’t afraid to head out into the field and break the big stories. Our next anchor/reporter will enterprise exclusives, tell compelling stories, and execute energetic live shots. We are seeking a market leader who isn’t afraid to ask tough questions and will hold those in power accountable. Our anchors are newsroom leaders who mentor and grow producers and reporters. They write and edit scripts with conversational communication in mind. We want a versatile, enterprising self-starter who is fast, efficient, works well under tight deadlines, can develop sources, and has excellent live reporting skills.
Responsibilities
- Deliver scripted and ad lib material with professionalism, personality, and purpose.
- Guide reporters and producers in newscast production.
- Contribute content across all platforms.
- Plan, gather, and assemble stories on news days or for special projects.
- Coordinate with news managers and producers to develop stories with unique enterprise angles and exclusive content.
- Develop a network of sources for tips, early information, and breaking stories.
- Contribute pictures, videos, and text updates to mobile platforms throughout the day.
- Manage multiple stories and projects efficiently under pressure.
- Summarize information clearly and concisely.
- Maintain high journalistic integrity and ethical standards.
- Represent the station at public events; in-person attendance is required.
Qualifications
- Strong reporting skills and ability to connect with viewers.
- Proficiency with mobile transmission devices and latest technology.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Valid driver’s license, ability to drive large vehicles, and a clean driving record.
- Willingness to work varied shifts, including overnights and weekends.
- Ability to handle the stresses of time-sensitive news production.
- 2-5 years of anchor and reporting experience required.
- Demonstrated ability to enterprise and uncover stories.
- Provide a demo reel reflecting your usual work.
- Related experience, education, or training considered; military experience also valued.
