Job Description:
The Division of Communication and Creative Media is seeking to fill one or more part-time, on-campus adjunct faculty positions in the Animation Program for the Fall 2025 semester. The available courses are ANM 100: Animation History and ANM 200: 2D Animation.
Champlain College fosters a career-focused hands-on learning environment. Our classes are generally very interactive and faculty are encouraged to bring meaningful experiences to the classroom.
Classes are held on campus in Burlington, Vermont. While days and times are generally flexible to accommodate adjuncts' schedules, they may occasionally depend on lab availability. Applicants should reside within commuting distance of the Burlington, VT campus.
Course Descriptions:
ANM-100 - Animation History (75 minutes - two sessions per week)
This is a survey course of Western and Non-Western animation in which students will research the evolution of animation and its role in storytelling and communication, through the lenses of art, technology, business and culture. Students will be exposed to and critically engage with animations created by a diverse group of animators, and will consider the conceptual, social, economic and cultural influences in the development of animation.
ANM-200 - 2D Animation (3 hours - one session per week)
This course focuses on refining skills in 2D animation through a deep exploration of the foundational principles that bring characters and scenes to life. Students will study timing, spacing, squash and stretch, anticipation, and other core techniques, applying them to create fluid and expressive animations.
Through hands-on projects, students will animate characters, objects, and environments, emphasizing storytelling, weight, and personality. The course includes advanced exercises in overlapping action, secondary motion, and dynamic posing to push the believability and appeal of animated sequences.
Students will also explore workflows for rough animation, clean-up, and compositing using industry-standard tools such as Toon Boom Harmony and Adobe Animate. By the end of the course, they will produce a polished, fully realized animated scene that demonstrates mastery of the principles and reflects professional-quality craftsmanship.

- Experience with software in Toon Boom Advanced, Adobe Animate, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere
- A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of industry experience in relevant areas are required
- A Master's degree in a related field, relevant experience, and teaching experience is preferred
