We are looking for a talented
Sr Product Designer
to join our team specializing in
Manufacturing
for our Components Business Segment team in
Troy, MI.
Creates complex models and drawings and perform checking for drawings and models. Ability to perform all of the key responsibilities of Product Design Technician Level II; Ensures model and drawing quality.
Creates and maintains product specifications utilizing Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing.
Utilizes Computer Aided Design (CAD) data management tools for configuration control and to maintain security.
Ensures application of company, industry, national, and international standards.
Participates in the maintenance of standards and practices which ensure quality.
Processes internal engineering work requests.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Communicates effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
Manages complexity - Making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
Mechanical Design Specification - Creates complete specifications in the form of solid models, configured engineering bill of materials and detailed drawings that cross-functionally communicate the information required to manufacture and inspect a product per its design intent; considers national, international, industry, and Cummins’ standards that accurately and concisely define the part specification.
Mechanical Design Modeling and Analysis - Creates Computer Aided Design models in accordance with Cummins' standards to represent architectural or product level system design concepts, and to enable completion of various system-level computer analyses such as Dimensional Variation Analysis and Finite Element Analysis.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Licenses, Certifications
High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.
A regionally applicable Certification (e.g. US Department of Labor) or two year Associates Degree from an accredited college program in a relevant field of study.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience
Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.
Overview:
The Senior Product Designer reports directly to the Transfer Case Engineering Supervisor. The primary responsibility is to design, develop, and production release Transfer Case systems and components for global Defense, Specialty & Off-Highway markets. This person will interface with customers, suppliers, facilities, and several internal engineering groups (axles, brakes, ride control, analytical mechanics, experimental mechanics, materials, etc).
Principle Accountabilities:
•Create solid modeling, layout and drawings necessary for product design of components and systems. This will include the use of CAE tools such as CREO.
•Interface with all aspects of engineering to meet customer requirements with focus on project timing and product design.
•Work with other designers and engineers to release detailed drawing packages.
•Establish good working relationships with team members, outside suppliers, customers, and various internal groups.
•Take part in the development of industrialization for the products.
•Propose technical developments to reduce manufacturing costs.
•Minimal travel required suppliers and manufacturing plants, expected less than 5%
Requirements:
•Product design with 10 years of direct designer experience.
•The applicant desired background and skills would include:
o experience with geared systems
o experience with Defense, Specialty & Off-Highway vehicle products and systems would be a benefit.
o Design experience with structural components (forgings, castings, weldments)
o experience with layout including dimensional stack-up calculations for component assemblies.
o Experience with geometric tolerancing and dimensioning.
o Excellent communication skills using multiple formats.
o Well versed with all MS Windows software.
o Familiarity with Mechanical is beneficial.
•Cummins uses a hybrid work schedule requiring remote and in office work.
•This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
