Parks Activities Specialist Pay:
- The training pay is $18.59 for all Parks Activities Specialist jobs
- Assistant Instructor base pay is $18.59 - $21.69 (entry is $18.59)
- General Instructor base pay is $20.66 - $27.37 (entry is $20.66 - $23.76 based on experience)
- Specialized Arts Instructor base pay is $30.99 - $39.25 (entry is $30.99 - $36.16 based on experience)
Summary:
The Community Music Center (CMC) has been helping people learn, make, and enjoy music for over 60 years in SE Portland. In East Portland, CMC partners with a group called the Center Powered by Y.O.U.T.H., which helps black and brown youth.
The Multnomah Arts Center (MAC) is one of the largest centers in the U.S. for visual, performing, and literary arts and has been serving the community from its SW Portland location for almost 50 years. MAC also offers classes in East Portland to make arts education easier for people to access. Both CMC and MAC welcome anyone, no matter their age, background, or skill level, and are part of Portland Parks & Recreation's Arts, Culture and Special Events division.
Note: This job is open for a long time. There are no set interviews or hiring dates. Applicants will be contacted when positions become available.
Job Type: Casual, Part-time. This job posting is for several positions, which are classified by the City of Portland as either Recreation Associates or Parks Activities Specialists.
Schedule: This job has flexible hours and might include working during the day, evenings, weekends, or holidays. The number of hours you work each week can change based on program needs, and there is no guarantee of work hours each week.
Locations: At various locations across Portland. When you apply you can select as many locations as you want to work at.

Qualifications needed for all jobs listed on this application:

Qualifications needed for the Specialized Arts Instructor jobs, in addition to the 5 qualifications listed above:
- Minimum of 500 hours of prior teaching experience for each discipline(s).
- Have had significant traditional/non-traditional professional learning and/or development. Examples of this can include, but are not limited to:
- An accredited degree or certificate program in a specialized art form(s) OR
- Long-term self-lead practice of art form(s)/discipline(s), which may include teaching and/or continued education

Attendant Jobs (Recreation Associates):
These jobs are represented by Labors' (LiUNA) Local 483 - Recreation. Applicants start at the entry hourly rate. To view the labor agreement, please go to the Labor agreements webpage and click on the appropriate link.
Attendants monitor drop-in recreation activities or events in the area of assignment. The position creates a welcoming atmosphere, engages with park and facility guests, provides excellent customer service and is a resource to the public for PP&R information. The employee maintains clean facilities and/or park spaces, monitors use of space and needs of guests, is proactive in addressing potential safety concerns, upholds the PP&R code of conduct, communicates with supervisor, rangers, and security under established guidelines. The employee monitors participation and completes the necessary paperwork and record keeping.
Ages: Attendant (Must be at least 18 years old)
Pay Range (new employees start at the entry hourly rate):
Attendant base pay is $19.52 - $22.78 (entry is $19.52)
Training Pay: The training pay is $19.52 for all attendant positions.
Customer Service Representative Jobs (Recreation Associates):

Customer Service Representatives are responsible for providing quality customer service to everyone, either on site or over the phone, when representing Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) in a variety of environments, including, but not limited to, PP&R Centers/buildings, pools, parks, outreach events, schools, and other places where PP&R provides programs, activities and/or information sessions. This includes frequent interaction with the public and Portland Parks & Recreation staff. General relevant knowledge of arts/music is important for Arts Center representatives.
Ages: Customer Service Representative (Must be at least 18 years old)
Pay Range (new employees start at the entry hourly rate):
Customer Service Representative base pay is $19.52 - $22.78 (entry is $19.52)
Training Pay: The training pay is $19.52 for all Customer Service Representative positions.
Instructor Jobs (Parks Activities Specialists):
These positions are not union represented. Instructors gather, share, and inspire, creating a safe space of belonging for participants to tell their story and grow in ability, creativity, and expression. They prepare and provide individual lessons, classes, or other activities for specialized arts & music programs for any age group. All instructors create a welcoming atmosphere, engage with park and facility guests, provide excellent customer service and are a resource for PP&R information. The position maintains clean facilities and/or park spaces, monitors use of space and needs of guests, is proactive in addressing potential safety concerns, upholds the PP&R code of conduct, communicates with supervisor, rangers, and security under established guidelines. The employee monitors participation and completes needed paperwork and record keeping and may be required to clean equipment and high-touch surfaces in the classroom.
Ages: Instructor I (Must be at least 16 years old), Instructor II and Specialized Arts Instructor (Must be at least 18 years old)
Pay Range (new employees start at the entry hourly rate):
Specialized Arts Instructor base pay is $30.99 - $39.25 (entry is $30.99-$36.16 based on experience), Instructor II base pay is $20.66 - $27.37 (entry is $20.66-$23.76 based on experience), Instructor I base pay is $18.59 - $21.69 (entry is $18.59)
