The Wall Street Journal seeks an experienced journalist to help run its tech and media team. The job supports the Tech & Media Editor, who is responsible for the Journal’s coverage of big tech, personal tech, media, and entertainment. The Journal has been leading coverage of business for as long as the newspaper has existed, and you’ll need to carry on this tradition of excellence and to think creatively and innovatively about how we should do it afresh for a changing world and changing audiences in digital realms. To succeed in this role, you’ll need deep knowledge of the tech and media landscape drawn from experience covering it, from startups to the most valuable companies in the world. The Deputy Tech & Media Editor will be expected to manage and inspire reporters to do their best work. This editor will also manage the Journal’s San Francisco office. Considerable leadership, management, and editing experience is required. This job is based in San Francisco and reports to the Tech & Media Editor. You will: Help set the long-term coverage agenda for the tech and media team and oversee the daily news flow. Nurture a top-flight team of reporters. Successfully collaborate with other coverage areas and with colleagues across the newsroom to produce great and distinctive journalism. Seek new ways of doing our journalism digitally, and champion them in the newsroom. You have: More than 5 years of experience managing reporters or editors. Deep knowledge of the companies and people who dominate these industries. Demonstrated success at managing exclusive news coverage and longer-term work.
