KieranTimberlake’s Summer Internship Program provides a meaningful opportunity for students to participate in a range of professional activities and to gain broad exposure to ideas that push the practice of architecture forward. In addition to providing practical experience, KieranTimberlake’s Summer Internship Program offers opportunities for professional development, training, and mentorship.
We are currently seeking a Design Computation Intern to join our Research Group this summer. The Design Computation Intern will work alongside peer-mentor Design Computation Researchers to advance the firm’s research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). They will be responsible for researching End-to-End AI/ML pipelines for various data formats generated throughout the architectural design process (image, text, 3D data, etc.). The Design Computation Intern will have the opportunity to develop AI models that unlock insights from untapped architectural data spanning KieranTimberlake’s 40 years of practice to inform future design workflows.
Responsibilities
Primary activities will encompass the following:
Reviewing technical literature for data analysis and machine learning methods Employing state-of-the-art methods for data engineering, image processing, natural language processing Reporting and summarizing findings to the Research Group Testing methods on real world data with the support of other members of the Research Group Learning new tools, methods, and data ingestion, analysis, modeling, and output visualization Synthesizing research findings in written and graphic form Collaborating with research partners outside KieranTimberlake to develop digital analysis tools Engaging in interdisciplinary brainstorming sessions and discussions with peer Research Group members across a wide range of topics, including ecology, environment, human health, building performance, and many others Qualifications
Candidates should be curious and self-motivated and should be pursuing a professional degree in architecture, computer science, or related field who wants to be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team.
Candidates should demonstrate:
Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) workflows and pipelines Proficiency with scientific computing libraries and AI/ML frameworks Strong understanding of computation and programming principles, including basic knowledge of at least one of the following languages: C#, Javascript, Python, R Strong written, verbal, and graphic communication skills Capacity to review journal papers and summarize findings Strong quantitate reasoning ability Acumen for developing new methods and skills Candidates should also list relevant coursework or professional experience in any of the following areas:
Artificial Intelligence Machine Learning Deep Learning Reinforcement Learning Image Processing Computer Vision Natural Language Processing Data Analysis Data Visualization Statistics Please note a minimum 10-week commitment is required.
