Overview
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Bureau of Sustainability (BOS) Office of Green Infrastructure Design and Construction has an exciting opportunity for a talented engineering intern.
This unit implements Green Infrastructure (GI) citywide. Green infrastructure collects stormwater from streets, sidewalks, and other hard surfaces before it can enter the sewer system or cause local flooding. By reducing the amount of stormwater that flows into the Sewer System, green infrastructure helps prevent Sewer Overflows and improves the health of local waterways. We have successfully built thousands of green infrastructure installations across New York City. Types of green infrastructure include rain gardens, infiltration basins, and porous pavement.
Under the supervision of a Project Manager within the Green Infrastructure Design and Construction unit, the GI intern will: Perform field inspections and testing of constructed Green Infrastructure assets and prepare and submit engineering reports, perform desktop analysis using AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS software to analyze tributary areas, review geotechnical reports and as-builts for green infrastructure citywide.
