Position Overview
Johns Hopkins Public Safety is seeking a Policy Writer to play a key role in establishing policies for the Johns Hopkins Police Department (JHPD) and centralizing policies for Johns Hopkins Public Safety. The role involves collaboration with internal stakeholders, external agencies, and community partners to draft policies compliant with various statutes and best practices in law enforcement and security. The Policy Writer will utilize evidence-based practices and data analytics to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Responsibilities
- Research, write, and edit departmental policies focused on compliance with BPD Consent Decree, the Joint Commission, MHEC, MPTSC, and DOE. Policies should be clear, comprehensive, and accessible.
- Manage policy implementation efforts, ensuring timely communication and addressing barriers proactively.
- Support departmental efficiency through technology and data, collaborating with legal and subject matter experts to align policies with industry best practices.
- Maintain standards, templates, and publication structures for policies.
- Archive all policy and procedure documents.
- Assist in developing training materials and gather community and department feedback on policies.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong interviewing and research skills for policy development.
- Effective and concise writing ability.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and in teams.
- Organized work style with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Experience with MS Office and Adobe Acrobat.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- Four years of professional experience, with additional education potentially substituting for experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a Policy Writer/Analyst in law enforcement or security sectors.
- Knowledge of law enforcement procedures and policy/technical writing experience.
Additional Details
Position: Policy Associate, Full-Time, Hybrid at Eastern High Campus, Salary Range: $73,300 - $128,300, Schedule: M-F 8 am - 4 pm, Exempt status.
