KTVN is seeking a seasoned Multi-Media Journalist (MMJ) for KTVN- 2 News Nevada in Reno, Nevada. The purpose of an MMJ is to present the latest up-to-date news to the station’s television and digital audiences in the easiest to understand, objective and accurate way possible. To present the news in the most objective way possible. To continue to grow as a writer, researcher and reporter. To always hold the reputation of KTVN 2 NEWS NEVADA in a very positive light.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Write packages, voice overs, and live shots for air and digital platforms.
- General assignment reporting.
- Set up stories and keep in close communication with producers and the assignment editor regarding scheduling interviews and story developments.
- Continuously generate new ideas to the assignment editor.
- Make beat calls and follow up on previously reported stories for new developments.
- Read all local newspapers and publications, and be aware of what is happening both in the world and nationally on a daily basis.
- Attend all editorial meetings that fall in your work shift and arrive with story ideas.
- Continuously work on all on-air skills, including live, voice, and communication.
- Work collaboratively with all staff.
- Create, write, and film news packages for consideration for air.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Journalism (preferred).
- High school degree or equivalent (required).
- One year of professional reporting, with live reporting experience (preferred).
- Develop and maintain contacts in the community.
- Ability to research, write, and report news stories for television.
- Typing and writing skills.
- Ability to use or learn to use non-linear editors.
- Understanding of ENG equipment.
- Good interviewing skills, develop a broadcast voice for air, and maintain a professional physical presentation on air.
- Ability to write to video.
- Ability to work under deadline pressure on a daily basis.
- Ability to accept and implement constructive criticism.
NOTE: The News Department functions 24/7 and this position can require long hours, unplanned interruptions at odd hours, and could involve weekend and occasional holiday work requirements.
