The role of a music therapist involves assessing patient and family needs, developing a care plan in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, and implementing this plan tailored to individual needs. The therapist uses music to facilitate change or maintain functioning, thereby contributing to quality of life. Continual updates and revisions to the care plan are based on patient and family progress. The music therapist also consults with team members on the therapeutic use of music, coordinates educational in-services for hospice staff and the community, supervises music therapy practicum students and interns, and provides music support to enhance other organizational programs and services.
Education:
Master of Music Therapy required
Licensures/Certifications:
Required: Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC), Licensed Practicing Music Therapist (LPMT)
Experience:
Minimum of two years related experience
Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of hospice philosophy
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Skill in listening, teaching, and public speaking
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Customer service skills
- Proficiency in computer use, including electronic medical records
- Ability to develop treatment modalities
- Time management and organizational skills
Pay Range:
$51,351.55 - $79,594.90
Final salary offers depend on qualifications, education, experience, and organizational needs.
