- Conduct in-depth research on potential funding sources, including foundations, government agencies, and corporate sponsors.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of prospective funders and track upcoming grant deadlines.
- Draft, revise, and finalize grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents that clearly communicate the organization’s mission, impact, and funding needs.
- Collaborate with program attorneys to create targeted proposals for specific practice areas.
- Ensure all proposals align with funders’ guidelines and are tailored to the specific requirements of each grant.
- Work closely with the Grants & Compliance Manager to gather necessary programmatic and financial data for grant submissions and reports.
- Develop and maintain a grant schedule to ensure timely submissions and compliance with deadlines.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of progress and final reports to funders.
- Interface with program attorneys to gain a deep understanding of their work and funding needs.
- Ensure that programmatic information is accurately reflected in grant proposals.
- Maintain a master file of all pending and submitted grants, ensuring all relevant documentation is up to date.
- Monitor grant deliverables and assist with compliance to ensure all funder requirements are met.
- Stay informed of trends in nonprofit fundraising and legal aid funding landscapes.
- Assist with other fundraising and development tasks as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, public policy, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in grant writing, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Proven track record of securing funding from foundations, government agencies, and corporate sponsors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex program information into clear and compelling narratives.
- Strong research, organizational, and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with legal aid or social justice issues is a plus.
