Position: Elementary Music Teacher
Location: Pulaski County, Virginia
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: 10 Month Teacher Scale (25-26 TBD)

Job Summary:
The Elementary Music Teacher is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive music education program for students in grades K-5. The teacher will foster a love for music through engaging lessons, performances, and activities that align with Virginia's Standards of Learning (SOLs) for music education.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Development:
- Develop and deliver engaging music instruction that aligns with Virginia SOLs and district curriculum.
- Teach fundamental music skills, including rhythm, melody, harmony, and notation.
- Introduce students to various musical genres, cultures, and historical periods.
- Implement movement, singing, instrument playing, and creative expression in lessons.
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment.
- Set clear expectations for student behavior and engagement.
- Utilize classroom management strategies that promote respect, responsibility, and creativity.
- Assess student progress through formal and informal methods and provide feedback to students and parents.
- Plan and direct student performances, such as concerts, assemblies, and special events.
- Organize and lead extracurricular music programs (e.g., choir, ensemble, or recorder club).
- Support school-wide events and initiatives that involve music.
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, administrators, and parents to integrate music into the broader curriculum.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Stay current with best practices in music education and pedagogy.
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field.
- Valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Music Education (PreK-12).
- Experience teaching elementary music preferred.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Proficiency in playing and teaching a variety of musical instruments.
- Ability to create an engaging, inclusive, and culturally responsive music program.
- School-based position with typical hours following the academic calendar.
- Some evening or weekend commitments for concerts and events.
- Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, moving equipment, and engaging in active teaching methods.
