Florida State University Panama City (FSU PC) seeks a forward-thinking, enthusiastic leader to oversee the academic library at the FSU PC campus - the Dr. and Mrs. James T. Cook Library and Learning Center. We invite applications for this University Librarian position at the FSU Panama City campus in Panama City, FL. This position is a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track, specialized faculty position with opportunities for promotion and multi-year contracts. This position is being advertised as open-rank, and Librarian rank at point of hire will depend upon qualifications and experience.
This position will begin in August 2024, and it will be on-campus at FSU Panama City with in-person administration and librarian service responsibilities. This new faculty member will be the head Librarian and will have formal affiliation with the FSU Libraries at FSU in Tallahassee.
The FSU PC Library and Learning Center is part of the FSU libraries system, which provides collections and library/learning services to enhance the learning, teaching, research, and service activities of the University. The FSU Libraries collection offers access to over 1200 databases and 120,000 electronic journals, in addition to a robust interlibrary loan program. The FSU Libraries system is one of the largest research libraries in North America and is a member of the Association of Research Libraries, Center for Research Libraries, and Association of Southeastern Research Libraries. At FSU PC, the Cook Library and Learning Center is located directly on the North St. Andrew Bay, with expansive, panoramic views of the Bay waters, sea life, trees, and sky. In addition to the beautiful scenery for reading and studying, the FSU PC Library has optimized space for group and individual study, computer labs and stations, an array of study rooms and plush private study pods, easy access to technology resources/items, and concierge-type services for individual instruction or training from library staff. Additionally, the FSU PC library center provides patrons anytime-from-anywhere access to FSUs collections, instant printing, and express delivery from the other FSU libraries in Tallahassee (in addition to interlibrary loan). Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities:
Serving as the Lead Librarian/department head by overseeing the day-to-day operations of the campus library.Engaging in library leadership for the development of new library-related initiatives to support its mission and monitoring all campus-specific library services, including information services, collections, user experiences, and patron analytics.Collaborating effectively with faculty and staff to ensure library services are meeting needs of the larger campus community and academic programs, and d) exercising collaborative leadership with the Dean and other campus leaders to advance the library's mission and campus commitment to student success.Additional duties include:
Serves as an enthusiastic and student-centered campus leader for the library and liaison to the FSU Libraries system in Tallahassee.Manages and engages with all library services provided by the FSU PC library.Serves as an effective and impactful department head of the FSU PC library, which includes staff management (often student employees) and engaging with HR processes.Anticipates, plans, and responds to changes effectively in the library and campus environment.Stays knowledgeable of trends that impact the library profession and higher education to ensure the campus library is charting its future appropriately.Participates in budgeting activities, budget decisions, strategic planning, and policy making at an organizational level.Builds upon existing library excellence with a commitment to student success, continued improvement, and professional development.Participates in and initiates specialized library-related services that are unique to a small campus and library environment.Provides librarian and administrative support for all learning functions across the campus.Provides training and instruction to faculty and staff regarding library services and other technology for teaching or learning.Advocates for the library and learning center by developing strong partnerships and collaborations on campus and in the community.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution is required, with consideration for other advanced degrees with equivalent training specific to Library/Information Science.At least 2 years of administrative experience as a librarian in academic, public, or governmental settings.Experience and expertise across a breadth of library areas, including at least 2 of the following: research services, instructional services, information services, collections, and user experience analytics.Experience providing library-based instruction and training to staff or students.
