Overview
The City of Norfolk's Department of Libraries is currently seeking a Library Assistant II-School & Library Outreach Programmer. This position is a support position at Library Administrative Offices & Service Center. This individual assists with the promotion of library services as well as execution of programs, events and trainings of branch youth personnel.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Demonstrates solid customer service skills and able to interact and engage with large groups of children/patrons
- Able to conduct programs with energy and enthusiasm to a diverse population of youth and teens
- Conducts early literacy, literary and cultural programs, such as Babygarten, Storytime, KinderSTEM, Build Bash and YOUmedia
- Conducts library promotional visits to public and private schools, and daycares
- Assists with outreach activities, programs and special events by setting up displays, distributing promotional materials and speaking to the public
- Organizes materials and manages an active calendar
- Writes for a multitude of documents including eNewsletters, wrap-up reports, email blasts & interdepartmental communications
- Performs administrative duties by typing and preparing statistical reports, ordering educational materials, inventorying multiple kits and distributing library materials
- Maintains organization of warehouse and supply cabinets
- Collects and compiles data for statistical analysis. Prepares and analyzes statistical reports
- Uses Microsoft Office suite and other computer software, desktop publishing and databases daily
- Knowledgeable of office machine equipment, copier, scanner and printers
- Supervises interns and volunteers
- Works with the Public Relations & Marketing, Community Engagement, and Adult Programs departments
- Promotes the Family Place project
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
One year of experience in library or related customer service work.
Experience working and engaging with children, tweens/teens and adults preferred:
- Valid Driver's license
Work Hours: 20 hours per week. 9 am – 1 pm Monday - Friday – Some evenings and weekends.
