The University of Louisville Ekstrom Library is seeking an evening Library Assistant II. The Library Assistant II supports circulation functions and services during Access and User Services (AUS) evening hours. The position has a working knowledge of the High Density Storage (HDS) database, operates a scissor-lift, and is responsible for picks and returns during the evening hours. This position serves as the primary backup for the Access and User Services Manager during evening shifts, supervising the department's desk operations, supervising student assistants, and handling building-related issues. This position, reporting to the AUS Manager, is the initial contact/first responder to all operational issues related to the AUS circulation functions and building management during evening shifts. The position also provides several hours' service per week at the Access & User Services (AUS) Circulation Desk and other patron service points as needed. During evening hours, this position handles basic research needs and ensures patrons are connected with appropriate services and staff across public services to address more advanced needs. In this capacity, the position will work with the Access Services Librarian to develop training for student assistants in this area.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesCoordinate with AUS Manger and AUS Student Supervisor to assign, train, and guide student assistants in special projects and closing procedures necessary to department functions. Serve as primary backup for AUS Student Supervisor for all evening students regarding scheduling, desk shift work, and backroom tasks.Assist the HDS Supervisor with projects that pertain to the maintenance of records and items as they are added to and removed from the HDS database system. Assist Technical Services in projects related to the HDS/Compact Shelving System, including database work, ILS support, and cataloging projects as needed. Process picks and stores for items in the Robotic Retrieval System (RRS), HDS, etc. Operate the scissor lift to deliver picks and return stores for the HDS two-three times per week.Support the efficient functioning of all activities in the RRS including picks, stores, loading and audits during evening hours and as backup for the day shift. Support RRS projects such as: overseeing and performing bin audits, reconciling audits, making needed adjustments to bibliographic records in the WorldShare Management System (WMS) system, and reporting any issues involving the RRS to AUS Manager.Serve as initial contact/first responder to all operational issues related to the AUS circulation functions and building management during evening shifts.Work across public service areas to address basic research needs in the evening and connect patrons with appropriate personnel and services to meet more advanced needs.Coordinate evening services for users with the Research and Instruction Department (RAI) helping directly or guiding patron needs to RAI during active hours.For questions relating to REACH, the Writing Center and Digital Media Suite, guide patrons to the appropriate unit during their active hours.
Preferred QualificationsA bachelor's degree liberal arts, business, computer/information science or related field and two years of related experience.Two years of experience in libraries or with library storage systems.Two years of experience in academic libraries.Two years of supervisory experience.Experience with library storage systems or with fulfillment/distribution centersExperience with operating a scissor lift.1 year of experience with safety protocols.Experience in a forward-facing customer service or support role.

Pay rate $16.51/hour
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
