POSITION PURPOSE:
To provide information to the public, promote library activities and services, and support all levels of media relations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Promotes the library and library events on social media, library webpage, library marquee, and print.
- Builds webpages using web content management system, responds to patrons professionally on social media; updates media routinely.
- Reviews or updates web page content or links in a timely manner, using appropriate tools.
- Creates advertising material to promote events taking place at the library, ensures material is culturally correct.
- Ensures the library’s marquee sign is kept up to date.
- Develops and updates library calendar of events. Publishes calendar for staff and patrons.
- Prepares press releases, responds to requests for information from the media, and serves as the appropriate spokesperson or information source for routine inquiries.
- Attends library events, takes photographs, obtains permissions as may be necessary to utilize photos for library promotion and maintain those records for easy retrieval.
- Creates videos, including live streaming, to promote the library’s activities and promote engagement. Facilitates the live streaming of library board meetings and other library programs as needed.
- Coordinates promotional campaigns and creates a variety of promotional materials for library services, programs, and events.
- Stay abreast of social media policies; develop social media and web-related policies for management’s consideration.
- Maintains cultural awareness when producing materials for events.
- Studies the objectives, promotional policies, or needs of Library to develop public relations strategies using social media to influence public opinion or promote ideas, products, or services.
- Creates program flyers, bookmarks, and presentation materials.
- Creates, organizes, and maintains the Library’s form database for internet access.
- Assists and directs patrons as needed.
- Provides assistance to other departments as needed.
- Perform other duties as required.

- The Library’s website is up to date, easy to use, and provides a valuable public service.
- Social media posts are scheduled regularly.
- The public perception of library services is positively promoted through a wide variety of media including social media.
- Proficient software knowledge is regularly demonstrated.

- Employee understands and adheres to applicable safety policies.
- Employee projects a professional public appearance.
- The City’s professional reputation is maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. /B.S.) in related field. Additional related experience is preferred.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
Level III Oklahoma Department of Libraries Public Library Certification within 12 months of hire. Continuing education to maintain ODL certification.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
- English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of the composition, and grammar.
- Communication: Knowledge of communication and information dissemination methods and techniques. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, or visual media and a solid understanding of social media and promotion.
- Critical Thinking: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must have analytical ability, and problem solving skills.
- Customer and Personal Services: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Software Programs: Knowledge or ability to learn popular social media, Dropbox, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office Suite, and emerging media production software/applications.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Familiarity with social media and video production.
- Handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Accurate and attentive to detail.
- Excellent communications and public relations abilities. Strong typing and computer application skills.
- Ability to assist and support others.
- Able to operate telephone, PC, copier, and other basic business machines.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
FINGER DEXTERITY:
Manual dexterity sufficient to work with the fingers.
VISUAL ABILITIES:
Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses. Must be able to distinguish colors.
PHYSICAL STRENGTH:
Exerts up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally. Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature.
LANGUAGE/COMPREHENSION:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
MATHEMATICS ABILITY:

WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS:
Typically 8 – 5 p.m.; periodic attendance at special events outside of normal work hours. Other–Variable lunch period and breaks in coordination with other office personnel. As needed for special events.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
NOISE LEVEL:
Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Occasional loud noise (high traffic, large crowds).
OTHER WORK CONDITIONS:
Library programs and events both indoors and outdoors.
ADVANCEMENT CRITERIA
INTERMEDIATE
5 years related experience. Intermediate knowledge of web design and development. Valid CPR certification. Advanced knowledge of Web Development. Additional Microsoft certifications.
ADVANCED
9+ years related experience. Master’s Degree in related field. Ability to conduct formal software training.
