The 60-acre garden, designed by du Pont, isamong America’s best, with magnificent plantings and massivedisplays of color throughout the year. The graduate degree programsand extensive research library make Winterthur an important centerfor the study of American art and culture.
We are seeking an entrepreneurial and mission-driven ChiefDevelopment Officer (CDO) to lead the strategic direction andday-to-day operations of the development department. The CDO willwork directly with the organization’s leadership to nurtureexisting relationships, and over the long term develop a strategyto diversify funding streams to include initiating a CapitalCampaign, Planned Giving, individual donors, government grants, andprivate foundations. As a member of the Senior Management Team, theCDO will report to the Chief Executive Officer. The new CDO willbring a well-rounded understanding of fundraising strategy and bestpractices and a proven track record of crafting and leading thesuccessful implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program.They will have exceptional interpersonal and communications skills,thrive in a fast-paced environment, will be able to lead bothstrategy and execution, and are highly skilled at managing peopleand initiatives with confidence, gravitas, and efficacy. The idealcandidate should be capable of fostering productive relationshipswith senior management and the Board of Directors. Compensation: $200,000 minimum

Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday - 35 hours/weekwith occasional evenings and weekends to attend Developmentevents
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Experience:
10-15 years of InstitutionalAdvancement/Development experience
Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred
Nonprofit experience preferred
Knowledge:
Strong strategic thinking and planning skills to help createand implement development strategies to meet the organization’sgoals.
Excellent leadership and management skills to guide and inspirethe development team.
Robust understanding of fundraising, donor relations, andpublic relations to drive the financial growth of theorganization.
Exceptional interpersonal skills to build and maintainrelationships with donors, board members, stakeholders, and keycommunity members.
Essential Functions:
Proven experience as a Chief Development Officer or similarsenior fundraising role.
A proven track record of developing and implementingfundraising strategies.
Experience with a variety of fundraising campaigns including,but not limited to, annual giving, major gift programs, and plannedgiving.
Excellent communication, presentation, and leadershipskills.
Proficiency in major donor relations and grant writing.
Able to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks and meetdeadlines.
