Wichita State UniversityPosition Overview:The Wichita State University Police Department is seeking a motivated, customer-service oriented professional to join our team as an Emergency Communication Specialist. This individual will partner with our University Community to keep them safe and help make our campus a better place to live, work and learn.Position Specific Responsibilities:As an Emergency Communication Specialist, you will be responsible for:Handling incoming calls and requests for service by public safety personnel, general public, and campus emergency systems.Dispatching officers to calls utilizing a radio system and computer-aided dispatch.Monitoring security equipment, processing alarms, and maintaining operations in the Emergency Communications Center.Essential Functions:Answering incoming communications for all emergency and non-emergency calls.Determining appropriate level of emergency response services based on available information.Communicating general law enforcement information, University policies, and public record releases.Maintaining accurate law enforcement records and incident documentation.Monitoring and responding to security alarms and other emergency notifications.Minimum Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent by hire date.Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to multitask effectively.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Ability to pass a typing test.Excellent interpersonal skills.Basic knowledge of police and emergency response operations.Must possess a valid driver’s license.Licenses, Certificates and Registrations:Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certifications within six (6) months of hire date. No, due to export control requirements, the University cannot sponsor applicants for employment authorization for this position.Salary Information:Salary range starts at $17.73 per hour and is commensurate with experience.
