IT Technical Writer Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including user guides, API documentation, installation instructions, system manuals, and troubleshooting guides
- Write clear, easy-to-understand technical content tailored for a variety of audiences (from end-users to IT professionals)
- Work with cross-functional teams, including software developers, product managers, and QA engineers, to gather information and ensure documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with product features and updates
- Review and revise existing documentation to improve clarity, consistency, and usability
- Create and maintain a knowledge base of frequently asked questions, troubleshooting articles, and technical solutions to assist end-users and internal teams
- Keep track of and manage document versions and updates in coordination with development cycles and product releases
- Simplify complex technical information for non-technical audiences, while retaining the necessary technical accuracy
- Gather feedback from end users, QA teams, and product stakeholders to continuously improve the quality and effectiveness of documentation
IT Technical Writer Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Technical Writing, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- 2+ years of experience in technical writing or IT documentation, preferably in a software development or IT-focused environment
- Solid understanding of IT concepts, systems, software development practices, and programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, HTML, SQL)
- Exceptional written communication skills with a strong attention to detail and ability to simplify complex information
- Proficiency in using documentation tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Confluence, MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, or similar
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with technical teams and subject matter experts
- Ability to identify gaps in documentation and resolve issues effectively
