The Las Cruces Bulletin is an independently owned newspaper in beautiful southern New Mexico. We are looking for our next general assignment reporter.
If you have a few years of experience and are passionate about providing a variety of news content in a news desert, we want to hear from you.
The Las Cruces Bulletin is small but punches above its weight to deliver timely, factual, balanced news. We serve over 20,000 readers in New Mexico’s second largest city.
We are hyper focused on providing local news to meet the needs of the community. We print once a week and publish stories online Monday through Friday.
We are a collaborative, friendly, professional team. Our paper is free to the public and avoids pop-up advertising.
Essential functions:
The reporter will gather news and juggle a variety of beat assignments. We are especially interested in someone who is ready to cover breaking news, education, and sports feature stories, with some county, city, crime, and court reporting as needed.
The reporter should:
- Write accurately on deadline
- Take photos
- Have knowledge of AP style
- Post to social media
- Develop sources to generate story ideas
- Attend weekly editorial meetings
- Maintain courteous relations with the public
- Assist in preparation of special publications
