Position Title: Professional Lecturer of Communication/Sports Broadcasting
Department/School: School of Communication & the Arts
Salary/Pay Rate: $75,000 - $80,000
Job Summary: The School of Communication and the Arts at Marist University invites applications for a Professional Lecturer in Communication with a focus on Sports Broadcasting, beginning August 2025. The department seeks a candidate with the ability to teach studio and field broadcasting and new media courses in sports media and journalism. We hope to recruit a colleague comfortable in the world of streaming and social media as well as in more traditional broadcast settings. The successful candidate should be able to teach a studio course on producing a newscast and help students live stream a podcast or produce short-form feature content suitable for social media streaming.
The successful candidate will join a Communication Department characterized by a strong sense of collaboration and expansive community in which students are the central focus and faculty are both accessible and approachable. The Department offers a major with five concentrations (Communication Studies, Advertising, Journalism, Public Relations, and Sports Communication) and Centers for Sports Communication and Social Media. The major enrolls over 500 students.
This position aligns with the School of Communication and the Artsā mission to inspire students to be ethically responsible professionals, with an understanding of sustainable and social responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications:
- Five years or more experience in sports media production.
- Two semesters teaching experience in a higher educational setting.
- Bachelorās degree in a related field.
- Working understanding of production tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, AP ENPS, audio production technologies, and camera operation.
Essential Functions:
- Design and teach several foundational Sports Communication and Journalism courses (4/4 or 24 credit course load per year).
- Advise Communication students.
- Advise and/or engage with extra-curricular media publications, projects, and clubs.
- Participate in the Center for Sports Communication activities.
- Aid the Department Chair with program assessment and other projects that enhance the environment for students and colleagues.
- Engage in a variety of service duties, including school and university committee service, curriculum development and assessment, admissions, and community/industry outreach.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ten+ years media production experience.
- Three+ years teaching experience in higher education.
- Ability to teach lecture courses such as Sport, Culture and Communication and Issues in Sports Media.
- A Masterās degree or other graduate degree in a related field.

- Typical eligibility requirements: 1 year of service and 1,000 hours with Marist University.
- 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity ā Roth option available. Voluntary, up to IRS maximum contribution.
- Tuition Benefits:
- Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
- University pays 100% tuition only.
- Eligible dependents may be reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.
