The ideal candidate has:Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field.At least 5 years of relevant experience.A portfolio of relevant work.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Remains abreast of legislation and government services at all levels of government, especially matters impacting Detroit and District 4.Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a high-volume workload often requiring short turnaround times and a keen eye for detail.Collaborates with the Creative Team to strategize and launch campaigns, including assisting with compiling media kits and employing the most appropriate medium for dissemination of information.Able to establish relationships that will foster the success of the office; thus, looks for opportunities to establish new and strengthen existing relationships.Attends and records selected community meetings and events (which includes evenings and weekends); i.e., Board of Zoning Appeals Hearings, park cleanups, resource fairs, parades, etc., and incorporates visuals and major takeaways into copy.Work product must be culturally relevant, timely, appropriate, and aligned with a rank-and-file government official.Must have the ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and independent judgment regarding matters of significance.Understand how to effectively evaluate analytical data to determine the effectiveness of messaging.Other duties as assigned.Ideal Candidate
Desires to make a significant impact in our community.Knows issues impacting City of Detroit residents, businesses, and visitors; and respect for communities and diverse cultures is highly preferred.1 to 3 years of professional experience.Can demonstrate a portfolio of relevant work; examples should include an analysis of technical reports, white papers, journal articles, etc., and action-oriented copy.Proficient in the use of Canva, Adobe Creative Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, or other drafting and editing software.Proficient in the use of mass marketing tools (e.g. GovDelivery and Constant Contact).Proficient in the use of Customer Relations Management tools (e.g. Salesforce and Act! CRM).Proofreading experience and familiarity with standard style guides a plus.Experience working with content management systems, WordPress, etc.Possesses a strong work ethic with the ability to multitask, prioritize workload and facilitate meetings.Ability to work independently or in a group.Is skilled at networking in various environments.Approaches challenges proactively and is solution-focused.Applications Accepted by:
