HOURS: 37 hours per week. The weekly schedule includes two (2) evenings and Saturdays.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Librarian position is responsible for assisting the Library Director and the Assistant Library Director in day-to-day management of personnel and library services to ensure the library needs of the community are satisfied in addition to duties associated with the Information Librarian position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS and DUTIES:
- Plans programs and services, promotes library use in the community, and serves as liaison with community groups and schools.
- Communicates and interacts with the public, staff, and administration.
- Assists in training professionals and support staff in public services.
- Maintains a working knowledge of contemporary issues, trends, and technology in the library profession.
- Generates ideas for service improvements.
- Analyzes and recommends efficiencies to existing workflow and procedures.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff and the public.
- Installs, configures, and maintains Library computer hardware and software.
- Supports information technology systems for the library, and provides computers (hardware and software), peripherals, and associated technology support for staff and the public.
- Assists in maintaining and troubleshooting wireless internet access and manages and maintains audio/visual equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and ENVIRONMENT
With or without reasonable accommodation, requires some agility and physical strength, such as standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or reaching with hands and arms up to two-thirds of the time; and ability to frequently lift 10lbs, and occasionally up to 30lbs. Ability to operate in a public setting, subject to quiet to moderate noise with frequent interruptions. Work is varied, although many of the tasks are of a repetitive nature.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience
Master’s degree in library and information science from an accredited American Library Association Program. Five (5) years of public library experience with a minimum of three (3) years of public library supervisory experience.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
The position requires a commitment to service excellence; the ability to work well with others in a team and independently; prioritize and focus on what is critical and a commitment to lifelong learning and willingness to assume responsibility. Must have broad knowledge of library collections. Highly motivated customer-oriented individual with proven oral and written communication skills; and excellent customer service, interpersonal and problem-solving skills needed to interact with a diverse cultural community, and ability to work with patrons of all age groups. Proven demonstrated leadership with strong managerial, supervisory, planning and organizational skills; and capacity to interact effectively with staff and administration. Ability to make and implement decisions based on library policy and procedures. Ability to carry out assigned duties independently, creatively, and in an organized manner; to handle details with accuracy; to multitask under pressure; to analyze library services and make recommendations for improvement based on patron needs. Working knowledge of public library technologies. Experience working in an urban, multicultural community. Bilingual speakers are encouraged to apply.
