This position will be hybrid in the office/market 2 or 3 days per week, and those days can be flexible in consultation with your manager.
Phoenix Business Journal seeks an enterprising reporter who can dig into the economic evolution of the fastest-growing region of the United States through a real estate industry lens. The world runs on real estate business decisions, and PBJ is looking to hire a trending news reporter who is hungry to break big scoops and dig into important storylines. The ideal applicant will thrive in both fast-paced, breaking news environments and can tackle long-form, source-driven narrative features. A typical day might involve writing about a Fortune 500 company’s strategic shift, covering a press conference about a huge tech company moving its operations to Phoenix or tracking down quotes after getting a hot tip from a source. The successful candidate will be able to navigate different sectors, companies and topics, following the north star of what is shaping the Phoenix metro’s growth and economy.
Our reporters must be competitive, nimble and driven to break news about the most important industries, companies and people in the region. They are expected to provide forward-looking business intelligence to savvy readers who will use it to grow their businesses. Our content gives them a leg up on their competitors and connects them with decision-makers covered by our newsroom. PBJ reporters often break hard news that sometimes sources don’t want brought to light, but they don’t burn bridges.
- Report and write short-form and long-form economic development and real estate stories for the website and weekly print edition.
- Relentlessly develop sources and manage relationships with high-level executives and other community leaders to stay on top of the beat.
- Scoop competitors on key stories of significance, not only telling them what happened, but why and how.
