About this Role
As Principal/Director of Design at Manta Cares, you'll work directly with the CEO to create thoughtful, empowering experiences for cancer patients and caregivers. We're looking for someone with exceptional design craft who can work across digital products, community spaces, and service touchpoints. You should be energized by the challenge of building something from scratch and comfortable wearing multiple hats in a fast-paced startup environment.
What You'll Do Digital Experience Design Own the end-to-end design of our digital platform, from initial concepts through implementation Build and maintain a comprehensive design system that scales Design intuitive interfaces that make complex medical information accessible and actionable Work hands-on in Figma to create high-fidelity designs and prototypes Partner closely with engineering on implementation and iteration Trauma-Informed & Community Design Create experiences that acknowledge and support users through emotional and medical challenges Design frameworks for community support and shared experiences Build interfaces that foster psychological safety and trust Develop design patterns that help surface relevant community resources at the right time Integrate real user stories and experiences into the design process Age-Tech / Service Design Identify opportunities to extend digital experiences into service touchpoints Design seamless transitions between digital tools and human support Create service blueprints that align with user needs Partner with the team on designing potential offline experiences Build frameworks that support both digital and human interactions Who You Are Experience & Skills 8+ years of product design experience Deep experience with interaction design Strong portfolio showing exceptional craft in digital product design Track record of building design systems from scratch Experience with community or healthcare design preferred Previous work at design-forward companies or consultancies (e.g., Frog, MetaLab) Your Design Approach Obsess over the details while maintaining sight of the big picture Think in systems and patterns Balance aesthetics with usability Approach design with deep empathy Comfortable with ambiguity and iteration Technical Skills Expert in Figma and prototyping tools Strong understanding of design systems Ability to create clean, semantic design documentation Knowledge of web and mobile design patterns Basic understanding of front-end development principles Our Values & Operating Principles Patients & Caregivers First : Every decision centers on improving lives Empathetic Candor : Honest, direct communication with empathy Data + Creativity = Decisions : We combine data with creative problem-solving Learn, Build, Test, Repeat : We take smart risks and iterate for excellence Being Our Best Selves : We strive for excellence in work and self-care Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary and equity package Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental insurance Unlimited PTO Flexible, hybrid work culture based in San Francisco Budget for professional development and design tools Opportunity to directly impact cancer care through design
