50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now, a nonprofit organization that works at the local level to advocate for a high-quality education for all kids, regardless of their address. We develop local education leaders by providing them with the research, tools, and ideas to create learning environments that best meet every childs needs. 50CAN operates campaigns in Connecticut, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina and Tennessee and is led by CEO & Founder Marc Porter Magee.
About the Opportunity
50CAN is seeking an exceptionally creative, dynamic and eager Social Media/Digital Storytelling Associate. This role could be the right fit for you if you have deep excitement about creating content, in the same way a novelist loves writing or an artist loves to pain.
The Social Media Associate will report to 50CAN's Creative Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute creative social media campaigns to amplify our mission and impact.
- Manage and grow our presence across platforms like Instagram, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and others.
- Develop individualized strategies for each platform, and for key staff members, to promote 50CANs policy agenda, showcase the advocacy work of our state teams and grow our audience.
- Create daily engaging content for these platforms, including graphics, videos, stories and written posts.
- Collaborate with the communications and leadership teams to ensure messaging is aligned and effective.
- Develop skills in Canva and Adobe to produce self-created shareable content within the first year with support from the Creative Manager.
- Flexibly partner with colleagues on a fast-paced, high-octane communications teamincluding working in areas outside core responsibilitieswhere priorities and deadlines can shift rapidly given political or media developments.
- Stay up to date on social media trends, best practices and emerging platforms.
- Analyze social media performance and use insights to refine strategy.
- Engage with and cultivate our growing online community by responding to comments, messages and mentions and developing new strategies to grow engagement.
- Interest in American education policy, including supporting a familys right to find the education that works for them.
Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience in a social media, communications, or marketing role (nonprofit experience is a plus) OR a strong portfolio of examples of personal or professional social media campaigns.
- Strong storytelling ability and a hunger for crafting compelling storytelling content.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and trends, especially in the nonprofit space.
- Video editing experience (or a strong willingness to learn/desire to become a first-in-class editor.)
- Some experience with design tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite and a desire to develop these skills further.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including strong social media copywriting for X, LinkedIn and Facebook posts, Instagram first comments, etc.
- Highly creative, self-motivated and adaptable to changing priorities.
- A proactive learner who is excited about becoming an expert in social media strategy, design and communications.
- Familiarity with and belief in 50CANs Believe in Better policy vision.
- Alignment with 50CAN's values and culture as expressed through our core values also known as PORCH.

This position is fully remote and operates on the East Coast time zone. Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.
