Overview
Headquartered in New York City, the company operates a distribution facility in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our wholesale clients include major department stores like Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Lord & Taylor, and Dillard's, along with specialty retailers such as Amazon, and over 1,200 independent boutiques. Lyss also boasts a rapidly expanding Direct to Consumer (DTC) business through its website (www.Lyss.com). With substantial growth potential, the company is prioritizing significant investments in the DTC channel.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Technical Design Intern who is eager to gain hands-on experience in the fashion industry. This is not a creative role-we are looking for someone with a strong interest in fit, patternmaking, and precision in spec measurements. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and a team player with a "no task too big or too small" attitude. This internship will provide valuable exposure to technical design, the fitting process, patternmaking, tech pack updates, and production tracking.
The intern will work closely with and be mentored by our experienced Senior Technical Designer, assisting with garment specing, fit sessions, and technical pack updates.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a fashion design program (preferably 3rd or 4th year).
- Strong interest in technical design, fit, and patternmaking.
- Available to work a minimum of 2 days per week on-site.
- Proficiency in Excel, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop.
- Excellent attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be nimble with hands and comfortable with garment measurements.
- Prior internship experience in technical design is a plus.
- A positive, dependable, and dedicated personality with a strong willingness to learn.
- Required to submit a PDF portfolio showcasing patternmaking or technical work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work closely with the Senior Technical Designer to spec and check development and production samples, recording all measurements accurately.
- Assist in fit sessions, taking detailed notes and updating fit comments.
- Organize, track, and manage incoming samples, spec before and after fittings as required.
- Update tech packs to clearly communicate pattern changes and ensure accuracy.
- Maintain timely and professional communication within the team.
- Assist in managing the sample library, workflow tracking, and product development process.
- Support in proto fittings and any other technical design-related tasks as needed.
This is a great opportunity for students or recent graduates passionate about fit, specs, and technical design to gain real industry experience while working in an experienced and dynamic team.
