Job Opportunity: Assignment Desk Manager at KIVI, Idaho News 6
KIVI, Idaho News 6, the E.W. Scripps ABC affiliate in Boise, is seeking an ambitious and dynamic Assignment Desk Manager. This role focuses on news discovery, cross-platform coordination, and logistical support for the field, supporting the growth of our Neighborhood News brand and emphasizing digital-first, real-time coverage.
This role will help:
- Strengthen digital execution by ensuring stories are surfaced, confirmed, and posted quickly, aligned with digital trends and search behavior.
- Support MMJs and the Executive Reporter with interview coordination, confirmations, and scheduling, especially during early morning shifts.
- Bridge content between dayparts, creating a consistent, strategic 24-hour news flow.
- Monitor tips, community calendars, emails, scanners, and social media to ensure nothing falls through the cracks.

Responsibilities:
- Supervise the assignment desk.
- Plan news coverage as directed by news management.
- Dispatch crews to stories and breaking news using appropriate judgment.
- Make calls to news sources to gather actionable information.
- Research and track story ideas, emphasizing key brand points.
- Perform other duties as assigned by news management.
- Keep news managers and producers informed on story progress.
- Coordinate interviews, confirm logistics, and assist with real-time sourcing for reporters and MMJs.
- Monitor digital trends, tips, and community calendars to identify web-first stories supporting audience growth.
Qualifications:
- BS/BA in a related discipline or equivalent experience.
- Typically 2+ years of relevant experience.
Skills:
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office, non-linear editing, and production techniques.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of responsible journalism principles.
- Effective writing skills.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
