The State Journal-Register, an award-winning daily in Illinois' capital city, is seeking a full-time reporter to cover the city of Springfield. We're looking for a reporter who can spot trends, hold officials accountable, and translate policy debates into compelling stories about how residents and taxpayers will be affected. If your approach to a government beat is writing dry meeting stories and covering press conferences, we're not the right fit. Tell us instead how you can juggle breaking news and more in-depth reporting. Candidates should have at least a year of professional newsroom experience; a journalism degree is preferred but not required. Candidates also should possess strong writing and grammar skills, a knowledge of AP Style, and the ability and willingness to use video, social media and other digital tools. To apply, send a resume, cover letter explaining how you'd approach this beat and links to no more than six work samples to Angie Muhs, executive editor, at angie.muhs@sj-r.com . The SJ-R/GateHouse Media is an equal opportunity employer.
