Job Description
NBC News is seeking an experienced audio producer with strong editorial judgment who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom. This is an ideal position for a versatile, seasoned audio producer with a strong interest in news and current events to contribute to developing a new daily show.
The producer will be expected to edit interviews in Descript and ProTools, or similar digital audio software. The producer will also be expected to jump in on any aspect of production as needed, from pitching stories and booking guests to drafting scripts and quickly writing sharp copy.
Responsibilities
- Helps guide shape and tone of episodes, via prep and support during interviews
- Cuts multiple interviews weekly and drafts strong editorial copy with speed and accuracy
- Pulls sound from NBC internal media systems and conducts interviews for soundbites
- Anticipates audio issues and production blockages and works with team to resolve
- Writes preparation documents and scripts
- Supports distribution of show, including drafting metadata
- Contributes to editorial planning of episodes
- Generates timely and informed pitches
- Contributes to booking and outreach as needed
- At least 5+ years of experience reporting and producing for audio
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience
- Excellent writing skills
- Strong knowledge of news and current events
- Understanding of journalistic ethics and best practices
- Experience editing radio or podcasts, weekly or daily show experience preferred
- Understanding of competitive space for daily news podcast
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects under deadline
- Collaborative attitude and strong communication skills
- Fluency with Descript and ProTools, or similar digital audio software
- Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
