Founded in 1971, BBB National Programs’ National Advertising Division provides independent self-regulation and dispute resolution services, guiding the truthfulness of advertising across the U.S. The National Advertising Division monitors national advertising in all media, enforces high standards of truth and accuracy, and efficiently resolves disputes to build consumer trust and support fair competition.
YOUR IMPACT
In this leadership role, as the Vice President, National Advertising Division, you will work to hold the advertising industry to standards for truthful and transparent advertising in cases brought by competitors or through BBB National Programs’ National Advertising Division’s own monitoring of the advertising industry. These case decisions impact both the case at hand and the advertising industry as a whole, as they provide guidance on claim substantiation and other truth and transparency issues in advertising.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead, create, and implement strategies to grow the National Advertising Division and leverage internal and external relationships to support the achievement of the organization’s overall growth goals.
- Build and nurture relationships with key strategic industry stakeholders to raise the profile of the organization and identify new growth opportunities for BBB National Programs and the National Advertising Division.
- Strategic oversight of National Advertising Division operations ensuring continued excellence at the National Advertising Division.
- Serve as an expert and thought leader for BBB National Programs and the National Advertising Division, including through podcasts, speaking engagements, appearances, articles, and blog posts.
- Collaborate on programmatic messaging strategies and materials in partnership with Business Development teams (e.g., National Partners, Marketing & Communications).
- Meet or exceed financial and budget goals.
- Serve as a member of BBB National Programs’ Program Leadership.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
Must have:
- Juris Doctor (JD) required.
- 10+ years’ experience in advertising law.
- 5+ years leading a team.
- Established reputation for expertise and integrity in the advertising industry.
- Ability to effectively build and leverage relationships.
- Demonstrated public speaking and public relations skills.
- Strong creativity and critical thinking skills.
- Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Let us know if you have:
- FTC experience.
- Fortune 500 in-house counsel experience leading advertising/marketing law.
- Litigation experience in false advertising matters.
- Prior experience with BBB National Programs’ National Advertising Division.
