Position Summary:
The Satellite Communications Engineer will provide expert technical support for PM Tactical Network's portfolio of tactical communications systems. This role will involve planning, engineering, and implementing satellite-based communications systems to ensure operational requirements are met.
Responsibilities:

Serve as the focal point and satellite communications engineering subject matter expert.

Support the planning, engineering, and implementation of satellite-based communications systems.

Ensure satellite operational requirements, system control requirements, and user requirements are satisfied.

Assist in developing plans to optimize transponder utilization for each unit.

Coordinate with key stakeholders (RSSC, DISA, and ARSTRAT) to support the certification and satellite request process.

Assist units in the SAR and GAR process.

Assist units in correcting problems with interference impacting operational missions.

Identify and report problems and discrepancies to the Program Manager (PM) or headquarters functional managers. Recommend resolutions when unable to resolve problems.

Manage and document systems configurations, trouble incidents, test procedures, and test execution/results.

Exercise technical leadership to obtain agreement on required actions, schedules, and the resolution of conflicting points of view concerning support operations and Tactical Network systems.

Coordinate system development tasks with other program System Engineering leads based on integration challenges and/or new requirements.

Coordinate across the embedded enduring support team to obtain concurrence and to implement plans of action to accomplish PM objectives.

Attend PdM SATCOM meetings.

Represent the PM Tactical Network at planning conferences conducted by the Unit or other organizations.

Collaborate with key officials at all levels to coordinate and/or integrate operations and interests of the organizations.

Develop and present briefings as required to Army, PM Tactical Network, and Unit personnel regarding the status of SATCOM planning and/or test efforts.

Support SATCOM network planning, set up, configuration, troubleshooting, and testing, as well as teardown.

Work closely with unit staff and other personnel to coordinate activities.
Qualifications:

Required:
-
US Citizen to obtain and maintain an interim and final security clearance
-
Knowledge of SATCOM engineering, processes, and methodologies
-
Knowledge of tactical SATCOM systems

Ability to plan and coordinate military networks to meet operational mission objectives

Ability to configure SATCOM devices to include NCW, FDMA, and TDMA modems
-
Understanding of SATCOM network monitoring and troubleshooting procedures
-
Ability to perform link budget analysis over commercial and military satellites for X, C, Ka, and Ku-Band frequencies

Ability to coordinate and communicate with Teleport and Regional Hub Node strategic nodes

Preferred:

BA or BS degree or equivalent
-
6 years or more experience in SATCOM engineering

Specialized experience gained performing work as an engineer in industry or as an officer/soldier within an active, reserve, or National Guard unit

Experience in acquisition (Systems Planning, Research, Development, and Engineering)
