Overview
This is a full-time regular position offering a comprehensive benefits package. The schedule will be Monday-Friday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm with the option for a hybrid schedule, working up to three days remotely. Remote days are only available for residents of MA, RI, NH, ME, NY and VT.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Research and write long form articles and short copy on multiple topics, as assigned by the Editorial Manager.
- Interview Aquarium staff members to write content for various outlets including the website, e-newsletters, development/fundraising material, and assorted collateral materials.
- Develop strong collaborative partnerships throughout the organization to surface the best examples of the Aquarium both as a global leader in ocean conservation and a premier destination.
- Manage and create content for social media and the website.
- Convey complex topics clearly to both scientific and lay audiences.
- Edit material in collaboration with stakeholders to ensure material adheres to the highest standards.
- Support the Marketing and Communications team with other writing and editing duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Training and Experience
- Bachelor's degree required; focus of study on writing or journalism preferred.
- Three years of experience writing and editing content for a scientific institution, university, media outlet, or comparable organization required.
- Experience with copyediting.
- Proven success conveying complex topics clearly to both scientific and lay audiences.
- Experience with Wordpress preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Superior writing and editing skills, as well as oral communication skills required.
- Ability to partner with multiple stakeholders and internal clients and prioritize accordingly.
- Experience writing on conservation topics a plus.
- Superior interpersonal, organizational, time management and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Keen attention to detail and nuance.
- Comfort with writing copy of varying lengths, including social media.
