We're looking for a Managing Editor!
What You'll Be Doing
The Managing Editor is the journalistic lead for BTPM NPR, responsible for shaping and executing a dynamic, digital-focused news strategy. This role oversees all planning, creation and supervision of compelling daily news and features content, ensuring it is optimized for immediate digital consumption across web, social and mobile platforms, while also serving our legacy broadcast audience. The ME oversees the daily operations of the newsroom, curates and amplifies issues of relevance to our communities, and upholds the highest standards of journalism and public service ethics. This position can be hybrid - a blend of remote and in-office work. In summary, this individual will:
- Promote an inclusive digital-first content strategy and oversight; prioritizing the creation and distribution of news content across BTPM NPR's digital platforms before or concurrently with broadcast
- Provide editorial leadership; supervise the Assistant Managing Editor and oversee the daily operation of the BTPM NPR newsroom
- Oversee the development of a diverse range of original content, tailoring it for all BTPM NPR platforms
- Ensure BTPM maintains the highest editorial and journalistic standards; emphasize accuracy objectivity, balance, authenticity and fairness
- Effectively curate content that contains a robust digest of regional news and identify the balance between key reporting areas and short-term enterprise reports
- Foster a culture of innovation, journalistic excellence and digital proficiency
- Develop, implement and enforce efficient and effective policies and procedures for news operations, adapting them to support digital workflows
- Collaborate with the Director of Audio Strategy and other members of leadership to create and implement a strategic editorial plan
- Integrate data-analysis into decision-making processes and effectively adapt and adjust to changes in daily workflow and initiatives
- Minimum of bachelor's degree in journalism, broadcasting or related field
- Minimum of six (6) years of experience producing and editing news content in a media environment, with a strong emphasis on audio storytelling and digital publishing
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a supervisory role leading a newsroom or broadcast team, public media a plus
- Proven expertise in broadcast news content strategy, production and distribution across various platforms (web, social media, mobile, etc.)
- Exceptional news judgement and a deep understanding of journalistic ethics, including objectivity, balance and fairness
- Exceptionally strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to lead, train, grow and motivate a diverse team
- Proficiency with Adobe audio and video editing tools, digital content management systems, analytics dashboards, search engine optimization best practices and AP Style
- Demonstrated proficiency with computer programs including Microsoft Office, project management software (e.g. Asana) a plus

Salary And Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt hourly position and starting pay will be based on education, experience and interview. Starting range: $58k - $76K.
