Job Description
WDHN is seeking an energetic, engaging journalist to be our next weekend news anchor. The News Anchor Reporter serves as the primary presenter of news stories and other content across all platforms in a clear, engaging, and meaningful manner to news consumers. This role involves reporting three days and anchoring on weekends.
Located in Dothan, our community offers a warm, sunny climate, friendly people, and an affordable cost of living. It's just an hour from beautiful beaches and a three-hour drive to major cities like Atlanta and Birmingham.
Responsibilities
- Produce content for multiple platforms, including TV, internet, and mobile.
- Collaborate with management to develop and enterprise stories daily.
- Deliver compelling storytelling through anchoring, live shots, stand-ups, creative graphics, and digital/social media platforms.
- Organize material, determine story angles, and write according to editorial standards.
- Gather and verify information through interviews, observation, and research.
- Build and maintain a network of sources to stay ahead of competitors.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Communication, Journalism, or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered).
- At least three years of television anchoring or reporting experience.
- Strong vocal delivery, camera presence, and clear enunciation.
- Excellent reporting skills.
- Self-starter with an understanding of social media's importance.
- Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and organizational skills.
- Team player with a cooperative attitude.
- Proficient in operating newsroom computer systems.
