About the Role
The Mechanical Designer uses CAD software to support Engineers with component design work, preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches, and diagrams. Details to include all views and dimensions necessary for manufacture. Makes copies of drawings and maintains information regarding changes to database. Makes simple decisions but refers most questions/problems to Engineers or Supervisor. Solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with Engineering terminology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Proficiency in GD&T
Using computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software to develop designs
Creating and revising production drawings and 3D models (detail and assembly drawings)
Making final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project
Utilizing knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete models and drawings
Updating Drafting and Engineering Standards
Setting up and maintaining an organized file system for Production Drawings
Maintaining hardware library of CAD components
Communicating to Tooling, QA, Engineering, and Manufacturing regarding new and revised prints
Performing other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to read, interpret, and write documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, etc. to practical situations
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
High skill level in OnShape, SolidWorks, NX, or ProE CAD software; skilled in PC usage and associated software including Microsoft Office; familiarity of CAD/CAM equipment and relationship of CAD to CAM
Ability to learn new graphic software to compliment the presentation of new designs
