Base pay range
$89,338.00/yr - $94,258.00/yr
- Location Pay: Additional $4,920 in location pay for NYC, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester & Rockland, and an additional $2,460 in location for Orange, Dutchess & Putnam
About the Role:
The New York State Unified Court System is seeking skilled and dedicated Court Reporters to record and transcribe legal proceedings in courtrooms across the state. This is a meaningful opportunity to support the administration of justice and be part of the inner workings of New York’s court system.
As a Court Reporter, you’ll be responsible for verbatim reporting of trials, arraignments, conferences, calendar calls, hearings, and administrative proceedings. You’ll also perform related clerical duties in support of court operations.
- Record and transcribe official court proceedings verbatim
- Prepare transcripts upon request
- Perform courtroom and administrative clerical duties
- May be assigned to multiple courts or hearing settings based on need
Qualifications:
Candidates must meet ONE of the following:
- Certification in Court Reporting from an approved credentialing authority,
and
- completion of a formal court reporting program plus one (1) year of full-time verbatim reporting experience
- OR
- High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of full-time general verbatim reporting experience
Candidates without certification may still qualify by passing a NYS Courts' assessment evaluating reporting and transcription skills.
Certifications generally accepted include those demonstrating proficiency in reporting and transcribing dictation at 225 words per minute with at least 95% accuracy.
Court Reporters are assigned to the Civil and Criminal Courts of NYC, and to City, Family, District, Surrogate's, and County Courts throughout New York State. Assignments may change based on the needs of the court.
