JOB TITLE: Marketing Associate
REPORTS TO: Managing Director
TIME COMMITMENT: Part-time (15-20 hours / week)
LOCATION: On-site at Overflow locations and at Overflow events
Position Summary
The Marketing Associate supports the mission and retail operations of Overflow Thrift Store (OTS) by promoting the organization through marketing, public relations and community outreach efforts. The Associate will create and implement communications to promote and sell OTS products (in-store and on-line / Ebay) and to maintain a positive community reputation for OTS. In collaboration with the Managing Director and Operations Directors, the Associate creates collateral materials, designs artwork, creates OTS social media content, creates and maintains OTS website content and design, produces OTS marketing materials, assists with creation of an organizational marketing plan, completes market research, and other marketing and communication responsibilities as assigned. As directed by the Managing Director, the Associate leads special marketing events and other community events (annual Thrift crawl, annual dinner, anniversary celebrations) and represents Overflow in community outreach, business development and fundraising efforts. The Associate will support day-to-day operations as needed.

Position Key Responsibilities
- Create and publish content for social media (Instagram, Facebook) and newsletters with special attention to retail sales priorities, revenue goals, business development, donor solicitation & appreciation, and volunteer recruitment & retention. Utilize a wide-range of creative media (videos, graphics, pictures).
- Use Canva, Meta Business Suite, MailChimp, Square, Overflows website, Overflows Ebay site, and other tools & systems to create marketing content consistent with Overflow brand standards.
- Create, post and manage daily social media posts for both Facebook and Instagram, including generating ideas, watching competitor sites for ideas, monitoring local events and activities for ideas, taking pictures, interviewing staff or others for content, etc.
- Monitor Overflow social media channels for feedback and comments requiring response or action by Overflow leadership. Monitor other online sites (e.g., Google) for customer feedback and assist leadership to develop communication strategies.
- Develop and execute new content ideas for all marketing streams, consistent with organizational sales, donor and volunteer goals. Maintain Marketing & E-Commerce Planning Spreadsheet. Communicate regularly and effectively with the Overflow leadership team and staff.
- Complete monthly Marketing Reports for Overflow Board, as requested.
- Lead Overflows participation in special marketing events (e.g., annual thrift crawl, store anniversary celebrations / sales, new store openings, participation in community events (e.g., Ames Farmers market, ISU events)).
- Support annual community outreach and fundraising efforts (e.g., annual volunteer celebrations, Overflow annual dinner).
- Pursue opportunities to increase awareness of Overflow in the community, including at community events, Iowa State events, etc.
- Create graphics and content as needed for use on Overflows website - overflowthriftstore.org. Assist with regular updates and improvements to the website.
- Create and edit marketing videos for use on social media, including daily social media videos / reels.
- Stage photos of product for use on social media and in e-commerce systems. Assist store leaders to create product displays that are fresh, creative and engaging.
- Brainstorm and execute new ideas for social media engagement.
- Create and publish weekly community and volunteer newsletters via MailChimp or other electronic mailing systems.
- Create marketing collateral for all marketing streams (advertising postcards, letters to OTS volunteers and supporters, direct to consumer advertising, etc.).
- Pursue educational or professional development activities to support knowledge of marketing, community relations and fundraising.
- Other marketing and e-commerce duties, as assigned.
Position Requirements
- High School diploma; some college-level coursework preferred
- Knowledge of basic marketing tenets, approaches
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work with focus and high productivity in a fast-paced environment
- 2 - 4 years experience in retail environment preferred
- Experience with social media marketing and e-commerce preferred
- Knowledge of social media platforms
