The Dean of Art + Design oversees the Academic Affairs Art + Design unit's leadership, management, and operation. The Dean supervises and directs the workforce within the unit, including Department Chairs/Heads (Animation + Game Art, Graphic Design Illustration, Illustrative Design, and Photography). The Dean of Art + Design promotes shared governance, providing oversight and direction to the work of the Scholarship Committee and applicable Program Advisory Boards. They ensure that the departmental budgets, objectives, goals, and outcomes align with the College's mission, values, and strategic priorities. The Dean of Art + Design champions interdisciplinary collaboration and curriculum innovation through the development and execution of related certificates, concentrations, emphases, and tracks. Further, they ensure the continuous improvement of key results in student learning, persistence, retention, and completion rates, as well as professional career development and placement.

- Demonstrated continuous improvement in student learning outcomes integrated departmental co-curricular programming and enhanced student engagement
- Demonstrated continuous good standing with accrediting bodies, specifically NASAD
- Development and implementation of related new degree programs and offerings
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Art + Design Unit Leadership - Planning and Evaluation:
- Guides the development of unit and departmental annual goals, departmental plans, Semesterly Review Meetings (SRMs), and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Results (KRs)
- Participates in Academic Affairs policy development
- Ensure unit adherence to College policies
- Provides oversight to the scholarship committee, including College policies and procedures
- Promotes the College's mission, values, and vision and ensures that unit processes and personnel adhere to and advance these standards
- Supports program and institutional accreditation initiatives, reports, reviews, and reauthorizations
- Strategically identifies and engages with community partners related to unit offerings to advance program brand awareness and student learning and professional development opportunities, e.g. internships
Faculty and Staff Oversight:
- Supports and participates in the recruitment and selection of unit faculty and staff
- Provides oversight to course credentialing of unit faculty following the College's established policies and procedures
- Provides oversight to unit faculty and staff onboarding, mentorship, development, faculty grants, annual reviews, and faculty promotion according to the College's established policies and procedures
- Collaborates with unit Chairs, Heads, Directors, and the Provost/SVPAA and the Director of Human
- Resources for unit personnel Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs)
- Reviews End-of-Course Surveys, Annual Student Satisfaction Surveys, and other relevant feedback mechanisms and identifies and implements action plans to demonstrate continuous improvement
- Conducts annual evaluations for all unit direct reports (Chairs and Directors)
- Recommends to the Provost/SVPAA concerning the number, composition, and type of unit faculty and non-academic staff
Curriculum Development:
- Collaborate with the Provost/SVPAA and College leaders on the development of new college programs related to the Art + Design unit and provides oversight to their development and implementation
- Develops enhanced and integrated departmental co-curricular programming to advance student learning, personal and career development, social connections, academic performance, community engagement, and Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILOs)
- Provides oversight to unit course scheduling and faculty assignments, ensuring adequate course offerings across campus and online modalities
- Advance the unit's engagement in community service and public good to promote student preparation for civic engagement, educate about societal concerns, create meaningful partnerships, and enhance teaching, learning, and research
- Ensure programmatic degree offerings align with and support career development and industry standards for future employment
- Collaborates with the Dean of Interdisciplinary Studies to ensure that Foundations and Liberal Arts Program
- Learning Outcomes are integrated into applicable programs with mechanisms to evaluate their effectiveness
Student Learning + Development:
- Provide oversight to the unit's annual student learning assessment plans, including Course Learning
- Outcomes (CLOs), Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), and Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILOs)
- Provide oversight to the execution of regular Program Reviews
- Review learning assessment and program review results and guide action plans to improve student learning
- Collaborate with College leaders to ensure that recruitment, admissions, outreach, and marketing materials and activities accurately portray the unit's academic and co-curricular programming
- Collaborate with College leaders to ensure the accuracy of student degree plans, including course scheduling and registration
- Collaborate with College leaders to ensure students receive support for both academic advising and career development
- Demonstrated continuous improvement in student portfolio development and internship and career placement

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree or above from an accredited (4) year college or university
- Three to five (3-5) years of successful experience at the leadership level (higher education administration, e.g., Chair, Head, or similar, and supervisory experience)
- Budget management experience
- Able to affect academic planning and decisions based on data and metrics
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong work ethic with demonstrated collaborative and coordinative skills
- Strong technical skills
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Professional organizational involvement
- Experience working collaboratively across multiple departments
Preferred Qualifications:
- Terminal Degree
- Experience with institutional and programmatic accreditation

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
This on-campus position requires a minimum of 3 days on-site a week. The work environment is typical of the office, including moderate noise, confined workspaces, the need to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and extensive time sitting and working with computers. Occasional travel responsibilities follow on an as-needed basis.
