JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Bellisario College of Communications’ Film Production and Media Studies Department is seeking applicants for an Associate Teaching Professor position starting August 2026.
Candidates should have undergraduate-level teaching abilities in basic to advanced film production courses, with specific experience in narrative production and post-production. Applicants must be familiar with digital film technology and be able to guide students through the pre-production, production, and post-production of individual short films.
Key responsibilities include teaching three courses per semester and student advising. An M.F.A. in Film Production or related field is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong professional portfolio, including experience writing, producing, and directing for film and television, as well as college-level teaching, grant-writing, and administrative experience.
This position is funded for three (3) years from the date of hire, with an excellent possibility of renewal.

The Film Production major offers in-depth study of film and video production, incorporating writing, production (directing, cinematography, sound design, post-production), and production management principles. Narrative, documentary, and alternative forms are explored in a program that encourages critical thinking, idea development, and applied practice. Emphasis is on discovering the ability to make creative, aesthetic, and content decisions while developing a sense of personal style. The Film Production major is one of five majors in the Bellisario College of Communications and currently serves approximately 140 students. The University Park Campus is set in State College, a university town located in the heart of central Pennsylvania. State College offers a vibrant community with outstanding recreational and cultural activities.
